# Credits

Credits are what Livy uses to send your program's emails. You see them in **Configurations > Subscription and usage**, under "**Credit balance**".

### What a credit is

**One credit equals one email sent.** It's deducted every time Livy sends an email to a customer, and all of the program's automatic emails (cart recovery, reactivation, welcome) use credit.

### Your plan's credits

Your plan includes a certain amount of credits per period. In "**Credit balance**" you see how many you have left out of the total, *for example 993 / 1,000*.

### Automatic pack renewal

Automatic pack renewal is **on by default:** if you run out of your plan's credits, Livy adds a pack of 100 credits automatically so sending doesn't stop. If you'd rather control it yourself, you can turn it off.

**Two details on how the packs work:**

* Extra packs are charged in arrears on your Shopify invoice.
* Leftover credits don't expire and are always used after the plan's credits.

<Tip>
  If you're going to turn on several automations at once, leave automatic pack renewal on. That way, if your plan runs out of credits, sending keeps going without interruptions.
